Frequently Asked Questions

What is the airbrush make-up?

Airbrushing is a make-up application technique where foundation is sprayed onto the face using an air compressor and a gun as a fine mist of colour that gently covers the skin, giving the appearance of a flawless complexion. Because the foundation is misted on, it allows your true skin tone to show through without masking your face.

What is the difference between airbrush and traditional make-up applications?

Airbrush make-up is by far the superior technique. Traditional foundations if not applied correctly by a professional make-up artist can look obvious, caked-on or thick with a heavy feeling on the skin. Airbrush make-up is exceptionally lightweight and can feel as if you are not wearing make-up at all.

What are the advantages of airbrush make-up over traditional make-up applications?

Airbrush makeup is suitable for people of all ages and every skin condition. The make-up can cover all skin imperfections, is hypoallergenic, fragrance free and water resistant.

What make-up products do you use?

As a professional make-up artist, I don’t like to limit myself to one particular brand or range of cosmetics, as I believe that one brand alone can not contain a range of products that will suit everybody’s individual needs. All of the products I use are highly pigmented, professional-grade, photographic, and long wearing. This allows me to achieve a natural and fresh look with a flawless finish, that looks fantastic in person and in photos, but without the heavy make-up look and feel.

What qualifications and nominations has Andrea obtained?

Andrea Bartlett has held a 5 star excellence rating since 2006 in True Bride's Good Wedding Guide™. Andrea was honoured to be voted by her past brides into the Australian Bridal Industry Excellence Awards as a top finalist in 2011, 2010 and 2009. Andrea Bartlett, formally ‘Complete Treat Beauty Salon’ was nominated and made it into the ‘Top 6 Business Finalists’ in the ‘Business Achievers Awards’ for the category of ‘Beauty Services’ since 2009. Her qualifications include...

When is Andrea available for wedding, formal and special occasion bookings?

Andrea is available for bookings seven (7) days a week, strictly by advanced appointment only and subject to availability.

What areas does Andrea service?

The salon is home-based and is situated in Eastern Heights, Ipswich, however Andrea services the greater south-east Queensland area including Ipswich, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Lockyer Valley and Toowoomba.

Is there a minimum call out for your mobile service?

Yes, I require a minimum booking of four (4) adults for make-up services.

Is there a call out and travelling fee for your mobile service?

No, Andrea doesn’t charge a call out fee, however there may be a travel fee, depending on where Andrea is required to travel to on the day of your special event. The first 40km are free of charge and then travel is charged $1 per km return from Eastern Heights, Ipswich, 4305.

Why do make-up artists charge such different rates?

Just like hair stylists, make-up artists charge according to their level of experience and quality of the products they use.

How far in advance do I need to make a booking for my wedding, formal or special occasion?

It is recommended that you check Andrea’s availability as soon as you know the date of your event.

How do I secure my booking with Andrea for my special day?

To secure your booking a non-refundable, non-transferable booking deposit is required. This booking deposit secures Andrea Bartlett your make-up artist exclusively for your special day and is taken off the total cost.

What are the terms and conditions involved with making a booking with Andrea?

In order for Andrea to provide every client with excellent customer service and access to appointments during peak times, she has a number of Terms and Conditions as well as a firm Booking and Cancellation Policy. Please review this information and note that by making a booking or appointment with Andrea you are accepting both the Terms and Conditions and the Booking and Cancellation Policy as stated on this website.

Do I need to have a make-up trial/rehearsal and what actually happens?

This is entirely up to you. Andrea attends to a number of weddings where the bride doesn’t have a trial/rehearsal. However it is highly recommended for someone who doesn’t normally wear make-up, has skin concerns, needs advice on skin preparation prior to the wedding or has never had their make-up done professionally before.

What should I bring with me to my make-up trial/rehearsal?

If you have any photos of make-up looks that you like from wedding magazines or the Internet, a picture of your wedding down, colour swatches of the dresses (bride & bridesmaids) any jewellery, head pieces, tiaras, etc. Any thing really that will give Andrea a better picture of your overall wedding theme and style.

How far before my wedding or special event should I book my trial/rehearsal?

Andrea suggests approximately a month or two (4 to 8 weeks) before the event date. Andrea tries to hold trials on Saturday afternoons, time permitting, and suggests you book in for a date when you have a something on, like your hen’s night or bridal shower or if you are going out for dinner or to a party, so you can make the most of your make-up.

Do I need to pay for my make-up trial/rehearsal?

Absolutely. Andrea will actually spend more time with you at your trial getting the look just right for you in preparation for your wedding day or special event. The price of your make-up trial/rehearsal will be the same price as your make-up on the day of your wedding or special event.

How long should I allow for make-up for my special event?

A professional make-up application including lash application can take up to approximately 45 minutes per person. Please allow this amount of time per person on the day of your wedding.

Is there anything that we need to do in preparation for getting our make-up done?

Please ensure on the morning of the wedding that no one in the bridal party is wearing any make-up, that everyone’s face has been cleansed and moisturised (not with a moisturiser that contains SPF) and that they are all wearing tops or clothing that can easily be removed, as to not wreck your hair and make-up, i.e. button up shirt or strapless dress. Please also find an area in the house or hotel room that allows plenty of natural light and venation and has a power supply near by, so Andrea can plug in her make-up compressor.

Do I need any products to touch up with?

If getting traditional make-up done, you may wish to purchase a photographic powder compact and/or blotting paper, if oily skin is a problem for you. If getting airbrushing make-up done you won’t need any powder or blotting paper, unless you suffer from extremely oily skin.

What payment methods are accepted?

Cash only payments are accepted on the day. Total amount payable must be paid on or before the event date.

What spray tanning products do you use?

SunFX Caribbean Gold 'Rapid' is infused with certified organic caramel, organic also vera, organic green tea and natural coconut. All natural ecocert approved DHA.

When having a spray tan, what makes you go brown?

The sunless tanner dihydroxyacetone (DHA) is currently the most popular way of gaining a tan-like appearance without sun exposure as it carries less health risks than any of the available methods.

How does DHA in sunless tanners work?

All effective sunless tanners contain DHA. It is a colourless 3 carbon sugar that when applied to the skin causes a chemical reaction with amino acids in the surface cells of the skin producing a darkening effect. DHA does not damage skin as it only affects the outermost cells of the epidermis (stratum corneum).

How long does a spray tan last on your skin?

It usually lasts at least 7 days (sometimes longer) if correct aftercare is followed.

What do I need to do to prepare for getting a spray tan?

Prior to tan, exfoliate your body. This can be achieved by using exfoliating gloves or by rubbing a damp soapy washer firmly over your skin paying attention to rough areas like elbows, knees, ankles and tops of feet that are prone to dryness. Make sure your skin is clean and dry before having the tan applied. e.g. No deodorants/moisturisers/perfumes etc (as this forms a barrier on the skin and affects coverage). Shaving or waxing is best done up to 24 hours prior to allow pores to close. Darker coloured swim wear or underwear would be advisable while tanning. Disposable g-strings are available in salon for those who require them - or of course you can be spray tanned naked. Make sure all jewellery is removed and hair is tied back and secure. Disposable hair covers are available in salon for those who require them.

What do I need to do to maintain my spray tan?

Wear loose dark clothing while your tan develops. With the Rapid Tan do not shower for at least 1-2 hours for best results. Do no leave Rapid Tan on for more than 2 hours. Using the original formula, do not shower for 5-7 hours (longer for a darker result). Try not to rub soap all over the body as this can cause tan to lift – a body wash is recommended. Do not be alarmed when your tan appears to be washing off. This is only your bronzer agent (what is used to guide you when spraying). Your beautiful natural tan has now developed underneath. Once out of shower, pat yourself dry. Do not rub, as this will cause tan to come off uneven. To prolong the life of your tan we suggest you moisturise twice a day. When having a spray tan done just before going to bed, it is advisable to rub a small amount of moisturiser over the palms of your hands and apply a small amount of talc powder there too. This will form a barrier when sleeping in case hands rest on body during night.

What is involved in a paraffin wax treatment?

A paraffin wax treatment is a luxurious spa treatment that is intended to moisturise and soften the skin and is most often applied to the hands and feet as components of manicures and pedicures respectively.
